Health Tips: How to Look and Feel Great

If you are looking for some health tips then you are in the right place. This article will show you how to start thinking more healthier and how to transfer that into your everday life. Once you do that then you will start to look at life in whole new different way and have energy like you have never had before.

The first important health tip to put forward in your life is to eat more healthier. This includes eating more natural foods such as lean meats, vegetables and fruits. A simple rule is that if it comes with a lot of packaging then it is probably bad for you. The less packaging and the more natural the better.

It is very important to drink lots of water to keep you well hydrated. Depending on where you live and your level of activity then you should drink between 2 to 6 l per day. Not drinking enough water will affect your mood and start to make you cranky and depressed. This is because you are de-hydrated and your body needs water. Try to drink bottled water as it doesn’t contain a lot of the nasty things that come from your tap.

It is also essential that you get a lot of exercise to keep you active. Good exercises to try at first include getting on the treadmill for 30 minutes or riding a bike on a sunny afternoon. You can also start to do things such as press ups and situps as these will increase your muscle which in turn will increase your metabolism. Once you start exercising on a regular basis then you will soon see the difference in the way you look and feel.

If you are currently suffering from a lack of energy then it could be because you are not getting enough sleep. Having around six to eight hours of sleep a night is essential and can be the difference between a great day or a poor day. If you have trouble sleeping then I would advise playing some relaxing music before you retire to bed at night and just generally relaxing and think soothing thoughts.

As you can see with these health tips, making a difference to your well being need not be a challenging experience. With a few simple changes you can very quickly be on the path to better health, more energy and just generally feeling better about yourself. In a few short months these simple changes can turn into lifelong lifestyle habits that will serve you for many years to come.

Five Keys to Good Health

National health care has brought much discussion about our collective health and what it will become in the future based on the policies put in place to protect it. Regardless of how the government regulates the care that we get, there are some basic steps we all can take to stay on track in our personal lives.

1. Get regular check-ups and screenings. The best way to fight off a disease is early detection… so unless you are psychic, a test is the best way to see what’s going on with your body. Be responsible for your own health.

2. Make endorphins your friend every day. Any kind of exercise that you dedicate 30 minutes to will help build muscle, strengthen bones and burn off the fat than can be deadly to your heart. Find something that you truly enjoy doing and incorporate it into your life on a daily basis.

3. Don’t let your mouth become a garbage can. As a rule, try to put only healthful foods and beverages into your body and let sugary snacks and fatty foods be an exception. The more colorful your food, the healthier they are for you. So if your meals don’t have enough greens, oranges or reds, you probably aren’t eating very well. If you have weight to lose, do it slowly so that the loss is sustainable. A simple place to start is by controlling portion size. Remember, your stomach is only the size of your fist!

4. Quit smoking, or better yet…never start. Breaking the nicotine habit is certainly far from easy, but the rewards will be far richer than the discomfort you endure. Don’t go it alone, there are several viable over-the-counter aids as well as prescriptions that your doctor can write for you. Don’t worry if you gain a few pounds along the way, your healthy pink lungs are the goal in the short term.

5. Find your own way to deal with stress. Some people prefer exercise while others swear by quiet time; the important thing is to find what works for you when it comes time to shake off the tension that comes with everyday living. The thing you don’t want to do is push what’s bothering you under the rug and ignore it. Stress builds up and manifests itself in the form of heart disease, migraines and an overall low immunity. Get a handle on it before it does a number on you.

A little time, a little effort, and common sense go a long way to helping yourself keep health. Just pay attention to your health and you’ll be rewarded with a longer, more active life.

How To Analyze Metabolism And Its Process

The human body do possess some flammable properties inside that it is capable of burning complex chemical components fueling it. One way of easily understanding how our flammable biology works is through understanding the engines of transport vehicles. By virtue of understanding vehicular engines, one can virtually grasp a great deal of the general mutual relationship between engine and fuel. The intricacies of types and brands of every vehicular engine is second consideration compared to its primary category and that is its fuel-burning rate.

Imagine owning a car, taking it for a ride and noticing how far the fuel indicator’s notch rotated. You would most certainly blow some steam off your ears. Owning a car that consumes so much fuel in a short span of time might as well just burn a huge hole in your wallet.

However, when one looks at the human body in lieu to its fuel-burning aspect, it viewed completely opposite from the way car engine is being viewed. The computed number of calories required to keep the human bodies on operating is called “resting metabolism”. Therefore, the idea of a good healthy body would depend solely on how fast it burns fuels, or rather calories and thus making him or her feel great about it.

One of the many reasons why people suffer obesity and the many physical complications it bring is simply because their metabolism or their metabolic rate have also decline. What is even more frightening or unpleasant to hear for most people is that metabolism is being categorized under age. They call this category as the metabolic age.

This biological concept supports the idea stating that the more an organism ages, the more the organic structure’s efficiency declines along with its metabolism. Biologically speaking, it is safe to assume that generally, age and metabolism goes hand in hand together. But nowadays, there seems to be a huge gap between the two and any resemblance of close levels between the two has been reduced to mere idealism.

Needless to say, these days the actual age and the metabolic age rarely parallels with each other. It is often the worst for obese people because obese people are expected to have an erratic discrepancy between the actual age and the metabolic age. It is simply unbelievable for an obese person to have high metabolism.

An obese 16 year old teenager might possess a 60 year old metabolic age. Nothing could alarm an obese person into taking his or her health seriously than announcing the senior citizen level of metabolic age. Contrary to Ancient Renaissance people’s aesthetic appeal for voluptuous and corpulent bodies, there is nothing artistic or beautiful about an ailing body.

However, if metabolic age is inconsistent, the metabolic rate is constant. Metabolic rate is measured by multiplying a person’s weight in kilograms times 22. For example, if a voluptuous female boxer’s weight is 75 kilograms, then her metabolic rate is 1650 kilocalories. If her daily food intake is more than 1650 kilocalories, she will surely gain fat because it exceeds the amount that her body needs. In order to effectively lose weight, she would need to eat less than 1650 kilocalories in her daily meal for her body to burn stored fats and carve up her ideal frame.

Diet and exercise is the key. To help with your exercise regimen, look over the adjustable dumbbell system at AdjustableDumbbellSystem.net and get fit and not have your room cluttered with weights.

Your Questions About Good Hearing Animals

Sandra asks…

Why do some animals have better hearing frequency than humans?

My secret question of the day for February 16, 2009:
Why do some animals have better hearing frequency than humans?

Linlee answers:

The cochlea of the inner ear would be designed differently from ours. Different frequencies travel different distances into the cochlea.

You might expect more “hair cell bundles” along the cochlea in the regions corresponding to the sound frequencies that that particular organism would be interested in hearing.

Your Questions About Heart Healthy

Thomas asks…

Heart healthy?

My grandfather died at 60 from a heart attack/stroke, my dad died at 52 from a heart attack, and my mom was diagnoised with cardiomyopahty when she was 35. I don’t want to follow in their footsteps when it comes to this. Does anyone know any foods, and exercises that would be good for my heart?

Linlee answers:

All foods that God made are good for you. The ones that men mess with are not. An herb called Hawthorne is excellent for hearts and can be added to your diet in pill or liquid form.Find it in a health food store or on line.

Susan asks…

What can i do to keep a healthy heart and kidneys?

I’d like to stay heart healthy, and as well my family has a history of kidney stones, I’d like to break that chain and keep healthy. I bike every day for 3-4 miles, and I drink a full bottle of water for every other drink I have. What else can I do?
Oh, and I’m 14.
Thank you, I’m very concerned about growing up to be unhealthy. It’s very scary for me.

Linlee answers:

Cut back on red meat(beef) and the water is good. Try to avoid too much soda because that can help the cause of kidney stones. Eat more whole grain foods as well to better your heart healthy life. I have to say at your age I am very surprised you are already thinking on the healthy side of life. Not alot of teens care about that. Kudos to you

Joseph asks…

What are some heart healthy appetizers for Easter?

It has to be heart healthy, and of coure yummy!

Linlee answers:

Make a beautiful veggie platter with dip. Get four bell peppers, different colors. Fill each with: slice carrots in coins, use fresh snap peas in another, sliced celery, sliced cucumbers. Get a small bowl and make a dill dip. Put all four containers in a pretty lined basket. Scatter fresh cherry tomatoes to fill in the holes. Nothing like a nice looking veggie platter.

Charles asks…

What can you do to keep your heart healthy?

Besides excercise, what else can you do? What foods are best for keeping your heart healthy?

Linlee answers:

Eat a healthy balanced diet with lots of fruits and vegetables. Also, do a little cardio a few times a week but remember to rest some days. Walk 2 miles every day, be happy, have good friends and family to support you, and reduce as much stress as possible from your life. I suggest to meditate or do yoga to reduce stress, its awsome. But remember that its okay to eat a hamburger every once in a while or to be lazy sometimes, just dont do it all the time! I hope that helps

Richard asks…

Any suggestions for a heart SHAPED, heart HEALTHY Valentine’s Day dinner?

I want to make something for Valentine’s Day that incorporates a healthy dish as well as something that is heart shaped. I’ve found a few recipes on the net, but most of them are for dessert or something very rich and heavy. Does anyone have any suggestions for apps, main dishes, drinks or desserts? Thanks!

Linlee answers:

Hope you get this in time!

Can you cut a heart with a sharp knife? Then, take your favorite cut of lean meat, like a fillet of steak, and cut it into a heart shape. Put it on a chopping board and take a sharp, thin-bladed knife and score your heart design, then trim the meat to the shape of a heart.

You can keep the scraps and either use them to make “duxelles” (i.e. Chop or grind them up and add finely minced parsley, garlic, perhaps a little green onion and a finely chopped mushroom) on the side. Set a little of the minced parsley aside for the steaks. Pan fry the duxelle mixture using Pam or similar lo-fat butter substitute, garlic and, if you use it, onions first, then the chopped steak until it is cooked through, add mushrooms until browned, mix well, then finally mix in the parsley and mix again. Duxelles are meant to be moist, so it would be good to add a little splash of red wine (healthy – good for the heart!) and a squirt of fresh lemon juice and reduce until you have kind of a rough “stuffing” type texture.

Meanwhile, season the steak hearts with salt and pepper and grill to taste. Sprinkle a little minced parsley on top to finish.

Another idea, if you like scallops and can get them, or even as a first course on the “heart theme” is to take king scallops and cut them in half horizontally and shape them into hearts. Again, you can conserve the trimmings and my favorite way of using leftover scallop is to mince it and make ceviche (see below).

A great, healthy sauce for scallops is orange and ginger sauce. Peel and mince 1/8 tsp of fresh ginger (if you can’t get fresh, you can use a pinch of powdered ginger) and mix with the juice of 1/4 lemon and the juice of 2 fresh oranges (or you can use 1/4 cup of orange juice). Mince up a sprinkle of finely minced, fresh cilantro (you can substitute with dried cilantro, reducing your quantity). Saute the scallop hearts until they just start to turn color (about 10 seconds each side) in Pam or similar, then add 1/2 glass of dry white wine, juices and ginger and then reduce heat to simmer until the sauce starts to thicken a little. Add cilantro, simmer on low heat for about 2 minutes. The scallops will be “carmelized” into a golden color. If you want the scallop hearts to be pink, then you can add a tablespoon of tomato or red pepper puree in with your liquids (either gives a nice taste).

Another nice thing you can make are “bruschetta” where you cut brown bread into the shape of hearts and fry in Pam with a sprinkle of garlic and dried herbs. You can either use these as the base for hors d’ouvres (I would suggest a little smoked salmon, a tiny dab of creme fraiche or sour cream and a sprig of dill on the top) or you can use them as croutons for soup. Slightly spicy tomato soup, or any soup made from seafood (Manhattan clam chowder, etc) would be nice for today (red!). You could have soup for your first course with the heart croutons, and steak or scallops for your main course if you like. Don’t know how many courses you have planned?

For drinks, well, you have to live a little on Valentine’s Day so you’ll need to have some kind of bubbly cocktail at least. Use dry (brut) California or similar bubbly and just throw a couple of fresh strawberries (with the green bits removed) or raspberries into the glass. This is a classic champagne cocktail – refreshing, romantic and relatively healthy. Have it with your smoked salmon bruschetta!

For dessert – strawberries or raspberries. I like the meringue idea that somebody else suggested but I have never made a really good meringue myself. Strawberries especially, since they are naturally heart-shaped if you cut them lengthwise. I sprinkle with a little lemon juice and dust with a tiny bit of powdered sugar. Also nice with a little drizzle of honey, which is the healthy option.

Ceviche is chopped, raw scallops mixed with finely minced garlic, chili pepper, green onion and fresh cilantro. Mix this up with the juice of 1 lime, let it marinate for between 3 and 24 hours and eat it raw (seriously – the lime juice “cooks” the scallops). Salt and pepper to taste. This is a big hit with my husband as it reminds him of our vacations in Mexico and he’s always on a diet (well, not always, I think you know what I mean!!!).

Sorry for the constant updating, my husband just arrived home with 2 dozen long stem red roses and I had to dig out the vases. He won’t tell me how much he spent, but I guess we’ll REALLY have to diet after today!!!!

Your Questions About Types Of Exercise During Pregnancy

Donald asks…

is there a limit to the intensity of exercise during pregnancy?

is there a limit to the types of exercise i can do during my terms?
i generally ran 1 hr a day, 5 or 6 days a week, preconception.
i know that i don’t want to stress my knees and ankles, so i have altered from running to speed walking. but i don’t feel like that is enough. is it safe to go longer? up to 2ish hours the same 5 or 6 days a week. and i really wana do crunches….but i assume that is out??

Linlee answers:

Whoa girl slow down! It’s ok to tone it down a little bit! Just don’t do anything that is uncomfortable. I would say it’s safe to run until you start showing; and do NOT push yourself. When you start to feel tired it’s time to stop. Crunches are probably ok also until you start showing. I assume you aren’t showing yet since it’s practically impossible to do crunches anyway when you are. For the entire pregnancy: Walking is good, and going up and down stairs, and swimming. Squats are excellent too; you will need extra strength in your pelvic area and your thighs for giving birth.

Just don’t be too restrictive on your weight gain–generally it’s not healthy for the baby if you gain less than 25 pounds(unless you’re overweight which I assume you’re not with all that running).

Maria asks…

Is it ok to exercise during pregnancy?

I dont mean jog 10miles around the block and pump iron but cycling, squats etc, or can you tell me what type of exercise is ok?

Linlee answers:

What ever you were doing before you can continue, except where a fall may hurt the baby, like a tread mill. If you were treadmilling you can alternate to rowing, I did that when I had by last child, it was great. Swimming is the best thing to do though, as your balance will not come into play. The rapid weight gain and recentering of your center of gravity can make things like cycling not a great idea.

Sandra asks…

How Much and What Type of Exercise Are You Doing During Pregnancy?

Linlee answers:

My husband and I take walks most evenings, and I’ve done a lot of swimming over the summer. Now that swim season is almost over for around here I’ll probably get a prenatal workout DVD.

Carol asks…

Question about exercise during pregnancy?

Ok. Well when I was pregnant with my now 2 yr old daughter I gained alot of weight (I went from 115lbs to 178lbs). I’m thinking (hoping) I might be pregnant but it’s too soon to test. I worked really hard losing all that weight (I’m back down to 117 finally). Is it safe to exercise while pregnant? I’m not going to try not to gain weight or anything, don’t worry. I just don’t want to gain 53 lbs again. I want to gain a healthy amount. I’m not talking about running or doing crunches or anything, but like maybe something like riding a stationary exercise bike a few times a week and going for walks… I also heard something about prenatal pilates… I was going to look into that. But anyway, my main question is: Is it ok to exercise when pregnant? What are some types of exercises that you recommend? Thanks alot! (Oh and just so you know I’m not bone skinny or anything. My weight now is healthy. I’m just short… only 5’3 and my doctor told me that the ideal weight for women is 100lbs for the first 5 foot + 5 lbs for each inch over 5 foot. So my ideal weight is 115lbs… but I’m close enough lol. I just didn’t want you to think I’m some anorexic girl obsessed with weight! Thanks!)

Linlee answers:

Short? Huh? I am a 4’10″ so you don’t have to worry about a thing – I am can’t even wear heels anymore. Lol.

Anyway, exercise is absolutely safe during pregnancy (unless you have been placed on strict bed-rest, that it), and it is important to keep fit for labour and looking after a newborn.

The important thing is to keep it low-impact and low-balance. Walking, swimming and pregnancy yoga are great. I used to train for triathlons, so cut that down to walking and swimming as soon as I found out I was pregnant. Walking is getting uncomfortable (I am 29 weeks pg with twins and it is getting hot outside!), but swimming is still very comfortable.

I don’t know what your work schedule is like, but maybe you could take your little girl out for walks (or push her in a pram), so that you can chat to her while you exercise? That way, she can get used to exercising with you and will be keen to head out with her new brother or sister too : )

Pregnancy is not the time to embark on a strenuous exercise regime, but it is a good time to ease into regular moderate exercise that you can continue after pregnancy.

Best of luck.

David asks…

exercise during pregnancy?

I am a total gym rat and compete in fitness/figure competitions. But now I am pregnant and am unsure about what kind of exercises are safe during pregnancy. Is it okay to still do weight training and what types of cardio is safe?

Linlee answers:

NO WEIGHTS st all you can have a miscarriage especialy the very first mnths in ur pregnancy. Ask your doctor what cardio is good to follow while being pregnant. Also walking is a HUGE PLUS while ur pregnant doctor’s actualy recommend it. So walk on the treadmill it should be good keeps u some what fit too and not just lazy and a couch potatoe throughout the whole 9 mnths

Your Questions About Health Tips For July | flexibility

Chris asks…

Tips to quit smoking?

Ok recently I took up smoking again. I smoked for about a year but stopped in july and started again from the end of last month. I really want to stop but I can’t. I’m only 16 and I don’t want to damage my health anymore. Does anyone have any tips to stop?

Linlee answers:

Best Answer – Chosen by Asker
I smoked for 15 years, and quit several times for months at a time… I tried everything in the book, short of acupuncture! I now take Chantix, and although it’s only been a couple of months, it feels different than it has the other times I’ve quit!

I will try to explain: I don’t have the cravings.. In fact, I rarely think about it! I haven’t had to stop drinking coffee in the mornings, I can have a few beers without bumming one from someone, and I can take road trips… Those were the all the worse times for me when I’d want to smoke. I work in an office where the only time I can really get away from the desk is to go smoke (like many jobs), and I still don’t want to smoke.

Aside from that, I haven’t had any weird side affects. I just have to be sure to take it with food, or it will upset my stomach. Of course, everyone is different, so you may react differently. Good luck!!

Donna asks…

Tips to improve flexibility?

I’ve been dancing for 13 years so I do have a background in dance. But for the past year I have been unable to dance because of injuries and health problems, but I am not able to start easing back into it, and need some help. Ive lost most of my technique. I need to drastically improve my leaps, pirouettes, turns in second, and kicks. How can really improve these things? I’m trying out for my old dance team again in July so I have a couple of months to really work on it.

Linlee answers:

If you can’t ease into it, I’m afraid you may injure yourself again trying to do all of these tricks. Perhaps you need to see a chiropractor as you study ballet, yoga and pilates. There is no shortcut to improving technique it takes time and determination.
