Your Questions About Healthy Eating Tips For Babies

James asks…

Healthy eating tips and exercise ideas?

hi i was wondering if anyone could give me so tips and recipes?
i weigh 170 pounds and have recently had a baby im looking to get rid of my baby weight. so im on a diet and have thrown out all unhealthy food in my house and brought lots of fruit veg brown pasta and such. im buying a bike and trailer for my son to go in hopefully that will help and have gotten into a routine walking the dogs everyday. i just need some tips and any healthy rerecipesou might have, i cant afford to join the gym so it needs to be on the cheaper end of getting fit.
thanks everyone im getting married in august and need my dress to fit it does do up but a bit tight at the mo :( i brought it 4 years ago! so i have a goal and want to cocontinueo be healthy afterwards.
i cant afford to join the gym so thatsnot gonna work :(
but i never new that about salt so thats a great bit of info thanks :) i really am gonna stick to it i need to get rid of my mummy tummy before the summer lol

Linlee answers:

STAY AWAY FROM SALT! When you eat salt, your body thinks that you’re trapped on a deserted island and aren’t going to get any water which causes bloating and that’s the last thing you need if you want to fit into your dress.

Drink tons of water.

Keep an eye on your “Saturated Fat Intake.” There’ll be nutritional information at the back of everything you eat, usually on the packaging. Try not to eat anything over 0.5 grams.

Fruit and Veg on a regular basis. Have plenty of protein and iron.
The baby fat should be gone in a few weeks if you stick to it!

Good luck! And congradulations!

David asks…

Eating healthy for a baby on a low budget?

I’m expecting in Nov. and I’ve been making sure to eat lots of fresh fruits, veggies and fish to make sure baby’s getting enough nutrition. Things are a little tight this week til payday. Any tips on eating for two on a budget? What foods give a lot of bang for not a lot of buck? If it helps, I have to snack in small meals all day; if I eat 3 big meals I start to feel tired and light-headed. Any breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack ideas or all would be greatly appreciated!

Linlee answers:

We’re in a similar situation. I’m not sure how good of a job I’m doing with the budget issue, but one thing I’ve found is that if you buy a package of boneless chicken breast and use it to make chicken salad, that lasts for quite a while, even with just two people. Another really cheap meal is egg sandwiches. It’s good to get two eggs a day when you’re pregnant, and my husband has been making me egg sandwiches a few times a week. Those are quick and easy. And of course, you can always do whatever variation of the eggs you like–boiled, scrambled, etc. Another good snack is yogurt. I always buy it in the bigger containers because it’s cheaper than the individual packages, and you can add fresh fruit or granolla if you like. And, of course, always try to eat your leftovers. For instance, I made a chicken pot pie the other night, and we’ve eaten on that for a few days now. And it’s actually pretty good because I used lots of veggies in it. Lastly, just remember that even though you need fruits and veggies during pregnancy, you also need plenty of protein and dairy. So try to make sure you’re getting plenty of both in your diet as well. Hope this helps! Congrats on your pregnancy!

Linda asks…

33 weeks pregnant and need some eating tips. Please help!?

I am 33 weeks pregnant and am looking for some healthy eating tips. What food are best to eat at this point in my pregnancy? What will help growth and weight gain for the baby? Do you know of any websites or recipies? I feel like all I eat is junk and I want to stay healthy!! I only have a few more weeks to go and I want to make sure I am doing right by my baby. Please help!! Thanks for all your help and info.

Linlee answers:

Eating healthy has a lot to do with what you will keep eating. If you take the “bad” food out of your house, it will be a good start.

–> Get spaghetti sauce with vegetables in it, or add them yourself….and get pasta with spinach in it.
–> Try to eat seafood, specifically canned tuna or salmon since they’re excellent for brain development and give you the GOOD fat.
–> Take your vitamins.
–> Eat fruits for snacks.
–> The more colorful your meals are, the healthier you’ll be! (Well, if we’re talking about fruits and veggies, and not food coloring.)
–> Make sure that you’re getting enough dairy.
–> Eat lean meats or greens for iron.

Anybody have any advice on loosing weight and some tips for healthy eating?

I just had a baby a few months ago. I lost majority of the weight naturally.. No workouts.. No eating plans.. It was weird.. But I still want to loose like 20 pounds. I never had weight issues because I was always skinny.. Now I am feeling depressed because I can not loose weight like I used too. It is soo much harder now. I searched the Internet and nothing but useless stuff is what I find. I can not
afford a gym membership. Or a personal trainer to motivate me. I tried this moderate 15 minute cardio workout yesterday and my body is really sore. I can not move. I have not worked out in over a year or so because of the pregnancy. I am out of shape!!! Someone really help me.. I want to do this from the comfort of my home because I do not have a babysitter either and it is too hot to take my child outside. It is almost 100 degrees out everyday in Houston, Tx. Before my son, I was always on the move. I worked in a hospital. And I went to the gym and played soccer. I danced on the weekends at clubs. I was always doing something to maintain my weight. Now I am a stay at home wife/mommy.. I don’t do much but clean and take care of son. And with me not working my husband pays everything in our home. We are on a budget. I need some tips! I am sooo close to starving myself.. I am just getting depressed.

Linlee answers:

Try biking or spinning. I’m trying to lose weight in Houston. I used to run, but I’m worried about overheating because its’ way to hot. If you have a bike at home, or if not try buying one for cheap off of craigslist. You can buy a stand to make it a stationary bike. Just google “stationary bike stand”

Your Questions About Health Tips For July

John asks…

Tips to quit smoking?

Ok recently I took up smoking again. I smoked for about a year but stopped in july and started again from the end of last month. I really want to stop but I can’t. I’m only 16 and I don’t want to damage my health anymore. Does anyone have any tips to stop?

Linlee answers:

Best Answer – Chosen by Asker
I smoked for 15 years, and quit several times for months at a time… I tried everything in the book, short of acupuncture! I now take Chantix, and although it’s only been a couple of months, it feels different than it has the other times I’ve quit!

I will try to explain: I don’t have the cravings.. In fact, I rarely think about it! I haven’t had to stop drinking coffee in the mornings, I can have a few beers without bumming one from someone, and I can take road trips… Those were the all the worse times for me when I’d want to smoke. I work in an office where the only time I can really get away from the desk is to go smoke (like many jobs), and I still don’t want to smoke.

Aside from that, I haven’t had any weird side affects. I just have to be sure to take it with food, or it will upset my stomach. Of course, everyone is different, so you may react differently. Good luck!!

Thomas asks…

How long did it take for you to find your first cna job?

I am going to cna training this summer and will finish in July. I was just wanting to hear from current or former cnas out there. How long did it take for you to find your first cna job? Where was it? Was it in a nursing home, a hospital, or in a home health care situation? Do you have any tips on getting your first job?

Thanks for all your answers!

Linlee answers:

Well im not sure how things work in your city but down south they want CNAs wiith at least 3 yrs experience straight out of school. Its rough for CNAs down here. Thats what encouraged me to sign up for LPN this year cuz CNA jobs just aint worth the effort looking for down here. My advice is do some home health aide work for a while with some personal reference and build from there. Good luck.

Nancy asks…

trying to get on with a p&c agency but nada..any tips?

i’ve been doing life and health for the last 2 years, got my 2-20 in july and am trying to get in with an established agency but seems they all want someone with 10 years experience and a $1M book of business..any suggestions
no mbr..im applying with local agencies for producer positions they have ads out for

Linlee answers:

Are you trying to work as a producer, for an existing agent? Doesn’t sound it – sounds like you’re trying to get directly appointed with a carrier.

Start by working as a producer with a local, independent agency. You won’t need the book, won’t need the experience, and would use their already existing appointments.

Carol asks…

Tips to improve flexibility?

I’ve been dancing for 13 years so I do have a background in dance. But for the past year I have been unable to dance because of injuries and health problems, but I am not able to start easing back into it, and need some help. Ive lost most of my technique. I need to drastically improve my leaps, pirouettes, turns in second, and kicks. How can really improve these things? I’m trying out for my old dance team again in July so I have a couple of months to really work on it.

Linlee answers:

If you can’t ease into it, I’m afraid you may injure yourself again trying to do all of these tricks. Perhaps you need to see a chiropractor as you study ballet, yoga and pilates. There is no shortcut to improving technique it takes time and determination.

Your Questions About Weight Gain Pregnancy

Sandy asks…

What is the difference between weight gain and pregnancy weight gain?

how can u tell if u just gained weight or if u gained weight from pregnancy…is there a difference from the way ur body looks from both sides of gaining weight?

Linlee answers:

Yes, most of your baby weight is shown by your belly.. Usually if you have a round skin tight belly its mostly the baby… But if you can tell other body fats that show up, like too much back fat then its your weight.. A lot of women get carried away when they are preg. They start to think hey i can eat a lot bc i’m preg. But your really not suppose to gain weight till about 4 months.. That’s when you see a real change to weight gain..

Mary asks…

How do you measure pregnancy weight gain?

With all the research I’ve done, I’ve found that the healthy pregnancy weight gain for me is 11-15 lbs. I’m 5’7, and I weighed 216 lbs before I got pregnant. I’m 13 weeks and 1 day along, and I weigh 196 lbs. So to gain the 11-15 lbs am I supposed to weigh between 207-212 lbs or 227-232 lbs at the end of my pregnancy?

Linlee answers:

In barrels, bushels, cubic yards, pints, ounces, kilograms, pounds, aaaaall up to metric tons!

Daniel asks…

How can I keep my pregnancy weight gain under control?

I weighed 130 lbs b4 my first pregnancy. I gained 56lbs with her and I lost 20-30 of it in the past 15 months. I still have a stretch roll from that pregnancy. Now, I’m pregnant with #2. I’m 5 weeks and I’m soooo worried I’m going to be so huge and gain too much weight. It sucks cuz I can be a lazy person… What can I do?

Linlee answers:

Talk to your doctor. The doctor may have info on pregnancy groups in your area where you can meet other mom’s. You can cheer them on and they can cheer you on.

There are already great answers here like “focus on healthy foods. Someone told me she tried to remember whatever you put in your mouth is what your baby’s brain will be made of. She said that sure made her think about eating enough lean proteins, whole grains, fruits, veggies, healthy dairy, and to drink enough water.
If you don’t get enough protein, you will crave sugar. Making sure to get enough B vitamins helps you to have more energy.

Find some kind of walking that would interest you. Maybe pair up to walk with a friend to help you stay on track.

Make a plan that you can stick to so you can relax and enjoy your pregnancy!

You sound like someone who is going to be successful at figuring out a plan that works for you!

Take care!

Maria asks…

Pregnancy weight gain, even if you start out overweight?

I’ve been doing some reading on YA and I’m wondering. If an expecting mother starts out overweight (about 30 lbs), is she still expected to gain weight with the pregnancy? Is it the same amount?

Linlee answers:

If you start out at the right weight for your height then you are supposed to gain 25-35 pounds; if you are underweight then you are expected to gain 35-45 pounds and if you are overweight you are expected to gain 15-25 pounds. These are all rough estimates, everyone is different but you usually will/should gain less weight if you are already overweight, and you will probably not be showing until your 3rd trimester.

Donald asks…

Can someone please explain pregnancy weight gain to me?

Is it possible that a woman could start out at 140lbs, gain anywhere from 25-35 pounds during pregnancy and then be back at 140lbs soon after baby is born? Why doesn’t this happen for many woman? Is it because they eat too much during pregnancy?

I know pregnant woman only need to eat 300 extra calories a day. If this rule is followed then why do some woman end up having a lot of weight to lose after the baby is born?

Linlee answers:

My prepregnancy weight was 141. The day I went into labor I was 173. Coming out of the hospital 3 days later I was 165. 3 weeks later I was 138 and now my son is 2 months old and I weigh 137 and have stayed there throughout the past month.I think in my case its genetics. And I never followed any calorie rules. I ate like a cow all day long :)

Your Questions About Joint Health Magazine

Linda asks…

Why does the GOP Want Health Care Tax Credit — For Pets, but Not People?

U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, has introduced legislation to create a tax deduction for pet owners’ expenses related to their pets.

According to the pet industry trade magazine, Pet Product News, McCotter, a Livonia Republican, introduced the legislation July 31 in conjunction with a Pet Product News survey on the industry.

The legislation is being supported by the lobbying arm of the pet industry, the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC).

According to the PPN story, the proposed legislation will amend the IRS code to allow pet owners to deduct up to $3,500 in pet related expenses, including veterinary care.

Meanwhile, McCotter, who opposes legislation to create national health care reform, has alleged that the Democratic National Committee is planning to protest at his offices.

Congressional Quarterly earlier this year cited the 11th District as a likely battleground in 2010, citing McCotter’s poor showings against vastly underfunded opponents.
I think the pet legislation is a great idea, but am at a loss for why he would not support health care reform for humans….there is a disconnect there. Odd.

Are Leg Curls Safe on Knees?

When using a home gym or a machine at the local club, I’ve always enjoyed Leg Curls.

I recall reading an article in Mens Health magazine that they’re bad on the knee joint or the tendons in the knee.

Is this true?

Why would exercise companies keep building them into their home gyms if it were true?

By leg curls I’m specifically referring to the machine with the padded arm that rests against one’s lower leg, and the user ”curls” the leg upwards to exercise/work the quadriceps.

I do notice that some machine’s seating arrangement can make the quads/legs uncomfortable while others are comfortable.

Hi,

Yes it can effect the joint however, try using less weight and more reps.

Statistics Questions – Probability..?

1) 43 million + people in the U.S. lack health insurance. (Time magazine, 2003) Sample data representative of the country are found in a survey about insurance and age:
Health Insurance
YesNo ……….Age
750170…….18-34
950130………35+
Use these data to find a joint probability table. The probability of being younger than 35 and not having health insurance is how much?

2) Use Question #1 to answer this: What percentage of this population is younger than 35 years of age?

3) Use Question #1 to answer: What is the probability of a randomly selected individual’s not having health insurance, based upon these data?

4) Which is not a usual way for assigning probabilities?
a) pull a number out of a hat
b) follow your instincts
c) look at past events
d) weight each possibility evenly
Please explain the solving process…Thank You.

Linlee answers:

1) 170/(750 + 170 + 950 + 130) = 170 / 2000 = 17/200 = 0.085

2) (750 + 170) / 2000 = 920 / 2000 = 23 / 50 = 0.46

3) (170 + 130) / 2000 = 300 / 2000 = 3/20 = 0.15

4)
a) could do this but it is not very common.
B) this is the basis for Bayesian probability
c) experimental probabilities, very common
d) good starting point, e.g., assuming a fair die before rolling.

Critical Alert: The Swine Flu Pandemic – Fact or Fiction?

Critical Alert: The Swine Flu Pandemic – Fact or Fiction?

American health officials declared a public health emergency as cases of swine flu were confirmed in the U.S. Health officials across the world fear this could be the leading edge of a global pandemic emerging from Mexico, where seven people are confirmed dead as a result of the new virus.

On Monday April 27th, the World Health Organization (WHO) raised its pandemic alert level to four on its six-level threat scale,1 which means they’ve determined that the virus is capable of human-to-human transmission. The initial outbreaks across North America reveal an infection already traveling at higher velocity than did the last official pandemic strain, the 1968 Hong Kong flu.

The number of fatalities, and suspected and confirmed cases across the world change depending on the source, so your best bet — if you want the latest numbers — is to use Google Maps’ Swine Flu Tracker.

Several nations have imposed travel bans, or made plans to quarantine air travelers2 that present symptoms of the swine flu, such as:

Fever of more than 100
Coughing
Runny nose and/or sore throat
Joint aches
Severe headache
Vomiting and/or diarrhea
Lethargy
Lack of appetite
Top global flu experts are trying to predict how dangerous the new swine flu strain will be, as it became clear that they had little information about Mexico’s outbreak. It is as yet unclear how many cases occurred in the month or so before the outbreak was detected. It’s also unknown whether the virus was mutating to be more lethal, or less.

Much Fear Mongering Being Promoted

I suspect you have likely been alarmed by the media’s coverage of the swine flu scare. It has a noticeable subplot – preparing you for draconian measures to combat a future pandemic as well as forcing you to accept the idea of mandatory vaccinations.

On April 27, Time magazine published an article which discusses how dozens died and hundreds were injured from vaccines as a result of the 1976 swine flu fiasco, when the Ford administration attempted to use the infection of soldiers at Fort Dix as a pretext for a mass vaccination of the entire country.

Despite acknowledging that the 1976 farce was an example of “how not to handle a flu outbreak”, the article still introduces the notion that officials “may soon have to consider whether to institute draconian measures to combat the disease”.

WHO and CDC Pandemic Preparedness Seriously Broken

The pandemic warning system has failed as it simply doesn’t exist, even in North America and Europe. To improve the system, massive new investments in surveillance, scientific and regulatory infrastructure, basic public health, and global access to common sense interventions like vitamin D optimization are required.

According to the Washington Post, the CDC did not learn about the outbreak until six days after Mexico had begun to impose emergency measures. There should be no excuses. The paradox of this swine flu panic is that, while totally unexpected, it was accurately predicted. Six years ago, Science dedicated a major story to evidence that “after years of stability, the North American swine flu virus has jumped onto an evolutionary fasttrack”.

However, maybe this is precisely what public health authorities desire.

This is NOT the First Swine Flu Panic

My guess is that you can expect to see a lot of panic over this issue in the near future. But the key is to remain calm — this isn’t the first time the public has been warned about swine flu. The last time was in 1976, right before I entered medical school and I remember it very clearly. It resulted in the massive swine flu vaccine campaign.

Do you happen to recall the result of this massive campaign?

Within a few months, claims totaling $1.3 billion had been filed by victims who had suffered paralysis from the vaccine. The vaccine was also blamed for 25 deaths.

However, several hundred people developed crippling Guillain-Barré Syndrome after they were injected with the swine flu vaccine. Even healthy 20-year-olds ended up as paraplegics.

And the swine flu pandemic itself? It never materialized.

More People Died From the Swine Flu Vaccine than Swine Flu!

It is very difficult to forecast a pandemic, and a rash response can be extremely damaging.

As of Monday April 27, the worldwide total number of confirmed cases was 82, according to WHO, which included 40 cases in the U.S., confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control. But does that truly warrant the feverish news headlines?

To put things into perspective, malaria kills 3,000 people EVERY DAY, and it’s considered “a health problem”… But of course, there are no fancy vaccines for malaria that can rake in billions of dollars in a short amount of time.

One Australian news source,3 for example, states that even a mild swine flu epidemic could lead to the deaths of 1.4 million people and would reduce e

Your Questions About Skin Health Boston

Betty asks…

my dog is kind chubby and has alot of extra skin what do i do about it?

feed her less make her exercise what kind of diet can she go on? i have no clue what kind of dog she is her mom was English bull dog and Boston terrier. Auggie well she’s just fat. and I’m afraid it will cause health problems. so any ideas that might help? she’s 2 years old. her mom died right after christmas.and shes lonely sometimes.=( sad now Auggie is just kinda fat

Thank u!

Linlee answers:

When she was at the vet last, did they tell you she was overweight? Your vet can usually give you an idea of how much weight she would need to lose to be healthy. Once you know, you can decrease the amount of food she gets, cut out extra treats, and exercise her more.

I had a Lab mix who was overweight most of her life because my parents gave her lots of table scraps. We cut her meal portions back and added green beans to her meals. Just simple canned cut-up green beans. They help the dog feel full without adding a lot of extra calories or fat or anything. And my dog really liked them. We were able to get 10 pounds off her and I’m sure that helped her live a little longer. She made it to 15.

Joseph asks…

what happened to my boston terrier

I had a 4 year old boston terrier, in good health with the exception of skin allergies, grass and heat aggravated the allergies and we were managing them ok. I left the dog with a lady overnight while I was out of town. This lady had watched her before. She claims she took the dog with her to take her grandson to work and though it was hot out in the mid to upper 80′s they had the car windows down instead of running the AC. She said the dog was panting heavily and got sick in the car, so on the way back home she rolled up the windows and turned on AC and put the dog in the front passanger seat to cool her off. She said she stopped on the way home got the dog out and let her walk around and drink water and she seemed fine. She got home the dog was panting again, she said the dog jumped up in her lap and laid down and died. What happened, did she have a heat stroke?

Linlee answers:

WEIRD! I’m sorry. I don’t have an answer for you, but that really friggen sucks!

Charles asks…

Why have waits at doctor offices in Boston grown to be about a year?

Despite Boston‘s abundance of top-notch medical specialists, the waits to see dermatologists, obstetrician-gynecologists, and orthopedic surgeons for routine care have grown longer – to as much as a year for the busiest doctors.

A study of five specialties shows that the wait for a nonurgent appointment in the Boston area has increased in the past five years, and now averages 50 days – more than three weeks longer than in any other city studied.

Patients in Boston and other areas of Massachusetts for years have faced notoriously long delays, according to earlier surveys of physicians’ offices. A number of factors contribute, doctors said, but the 2006 health insurance law, which has required hundreds of thousands of state residents to obtain coverage, probably has worsened the waits.

“We had a bus that was pretty full, and then we invited more people on the bus,” said Dr. Gene Lindsey, president of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, a large physicians group. “Now people are standing in the aisles.”

Merritt, Hawkins & Associates, a Texas-based consulting and physician recruiting firm, surveyed 1,162 doctors’ offices in 15 metropolitan areas, trying to replicate what new patients would experience if they were searching for a doctor for a nonurgent appointment, including a heart checkup, a skin exam to detect possible cancer, knee injury or pain, a gynecological exam, and a complete physical exam.

Boston had the longest delays to see dermatologists, obstetrician-gynecologists, and family practitioners, and was second after Dallas in delays to see orthopedic surgeons. Waits increased since 2004 for appointments with dermatologists, obstetrician-gynecologists, and orthopedic surgeons, but patients can get in faster now to see cardiologists; Boston ranked fourth in waits for heart doctors, behind Minneapolis, Miami, and San Diego. The company did not survey family practitioners in 2004.

Is this what we have to look forward too under Obamacare?

Linlee answers:

There was no rant there. This is simply a C&P of the mouthpiece of the Republican party, the Boston Globe (please get a grip).

The truth of it is get used to this. This is the future of “universal” health care (call it what you want). Yeah, it’s “only 50 days”. Tell someone that is in escrutiating, non-lethal pain that they have to wait “only 50 days”.

Mary asks…

My Boston Terrier NEVER Poops Solid?

I have a one year old Boston Terrier who never poops solid. I feed him Natures Recipe- Vegetarian Blend. I feed him that brand because I have another Boston Terrier who had really bad skin allergies and switching the food did wonders for her cracking and bleeding ears. My Poor little guy has never had a solid poop and I am beginning to wonder if its the food.

If it is the food, do I need to buy two different foods for two different dogs. Natures Recipe is REALLY expensive. Also, if it isnt the food what other health issues should I be considering. He is up to date on worming, loves raw hides, gets a lot of exercise and is otherwise of a great disposition. He does have stinky gas. He doesn’t ‘toot’ a lot but, when he does OMG he can clear a room.

Anyways, any help would be appreciated.
I understand that people have reservations against vegetarian food for dogs. We tried different meat blends of dog food for our allergic dog and nothing helped. The moment she was put on the vegetarian blend her ears cleared up. You’d do it to. The food is probably the problem with my diarrhea dog. I was just looking for opinions.

Linlee answers:

It’s probably the diet. I don’t think vegetarian food is right for dogs but that’s just me.

I find my dog is ‘looser’ if he’s had a lot of treats, especially raw hide ones so maybe try to cut those out?

We had to try about 5 different food types before we found one my dog was okay with (well actually we found 3, he has a mixture of 2 for breakfast and then one of those with half a pouch of wet food for tea… He’s a bit spoilt! Lol)

I just noticed my 2 y/o boston is losing his actual toenails leaving the tender skin underneath exposed. He has had a few health problems which i suspect might have to do with his below average size (barely 6 lbs.) I am going to take him to the vet but would like to know if there is anyone else who has experienced this problem with their dog. It may help find the answer if I can suggest some things while at the vet. I can tell some of his other nails are about to go. Could this be because I’m not trimming them short enough? The one I found on the ground appear to have just slipped right off…the entire toenail! Help!

Linlee answers:

OMG!! I have no idea why this would happen! But, I do have an (almost) 2 year old BT. So, please let me/us know what it turns out to be, and what could prevent it!

Your Questions About Weight Loss Pills

Joseph asks…

What are the best weight loss pills that you can buy over the counter?

Which weight loss pills can you find in stores that actually work really well? also do pills like 5htp and ephedrine help lose wait as fast as other weight loss pills.
im looking for personal experiences with OTC weight loss pills, not information about diet or exercises. thanks.

Linlee answers:

** So far I have lost 55 lbs. Doing this in 3 years. Eat six mini meals a day. Exercise and before every meal, drink two tall glasses of water, (about 16 oz.) this will fill you up and you will automatically eat less. This really works, so be patient. Safer than pills. Good Luck to you

William asks…

What do you think about weight loss pills?

Who is for and who is against weight loss pills? I`m doing some sort of a survey among you people so I can decide whether I will take some weight loss pills in order to lose almost 30 pounds or not. If you don`t agree to weight loss drugs, what else besides eating vegetables do you suggest?

Linlee answers:

Hello! I don`t agree to weight loss pills. I believe you must lose weight the same way you gained weight.. The best way to lose weight is the healthy way. Just keep your calorie intake under control and things will work out great! I work a lot so I use an online diet and workout planner to count my calories. There`s a good one at http://www.projectweightloss.com/, and it’s free. In case you`re interested in losing weight the “usual” way, that’s a great choice. In my opinion, this is the safest and healthiest way to stay in shape.

Ruth asks…

What are the risks of taking weight loss pills?

I’ve been trying to lose weight recently. I’ve been really healthy, drinking a lot of water, eating healthy and doing excercise, but my weight never goes down it just stays the same. So i considered weight loss pills. Is it true that after you stop taking them you’ll put on weight like crazy? Are they bad for you? I just want to know if its true that you gain weight when you stop taking them, as i dont want to be taking them for the rest of my life. Any info on this would be great. Thanks!

Linlee answers:

Percent of body fat is more important, not weight. If weight was more important then most bodybuilders would be considered overweight. Weight loss pills usually dont work and if they do they arent good for the heart and more than likely you will gain all that weight back when off the pills…

George asks…

What weight loss pills work that are sold at walmart for men?

What are some good weight loss pills that are sold at walmart or places like cvs walgreens kmart for men that help loose weight (researching for a friend)

Linlee answers:

Weight loss pills don’t work. They just suppress appetite and pack you full of caffeine. The best way to lose weight is through diet & exercise alone, there are no shortcuts.

Chris asks…

How old must you be to purchase weight loss pills?

How old must u be in the UK to start taking weight loss pills? Are they effective ? What are the side effects? Must they be proscribed? Where can I get them at there cheapest ?

Linlee answers:

Beware – a lot of the so called weight loss pills just don’t work.
They cost a lot of money and you don’t get your money back.
Most of them state they will assist weight loss as part of a diet and exercise programme.
You can lose weight and tone up without them. It will be so much healthier and long lasting.
If you REALLY need pills then Alli is one that will help rid fat and Hoodia takes the edge off your appetite.
It is a lot cheaper to adjust your diet and exercise though.

Your Questions About Types Of Exercise Bikes

Robert asks…

different types of exercise bikes?

so at the gym there are two different types of bikes. one like this http://shubhsurgicals.com/rwx/New_Balance_5100_Exercise_Bike.jpg

and one like this

http://www.itsaboutshopping.com/images/exercise_bike.jpg

which one is better for you? thanks!

Linlee answers:

The second one for sure, it a recumbent style so it is much easier on the knees, hips, and back…both burn the same amount of calories with the same amount of work…

Donald asks…

Which type of Exercise Bike is the best?

I definitely prefer an upright bike over a recumbent one, simply because the latter is for lazy snobs. I’ve seen bikes with electronic controls and bikes with mechanical ones, and I wonder what type of features the electronic ones have? Which ones are more lasting and feel smoother?

Linlee answers:

Electronic ones are a more high tech than manual ones of course.
The electronic ones, can set different resistance for you, and it has different types of workout plans digitally installed in its programs. It also tells your heart rate, distance, and speed.

Manual ones though, will hold up better over time, since they don’t use all these fancy gadgets. Just pedal and go, and thats all about it.

I recommend getting an electric one if you can, but if you are on a budget, a manual one will do fine also.

Joseph asks…

Whch type of exercise bikes is better for me to buy .. upright or recumbent bikes ?

Linlee answers:

Just a matter of taste. I use whatever’s available when I workout indoors at the Y. At home in the basement, I’ve got an old MTB mounted on a magnetic resistance trainer.

Ruth asks…

Which type of exercise bike is better for fat burning….upright or recumbent bikes?

Linlee answers:

I agree with the 1st answer. However, when I see people using both, I note that the people using a recumbent tend to not work as hard – they often read while pedaling and it seems they do a much milder workout. It seems to me that reading and doing a good workout would be difficult.

James asks…

Can someone recommend a store in the San Francisco bay area to buy an upright exercise bicycle?

I’m in the market to buy an upright stationary bicycle. I want to get something comparable to what I’m using at my gym (LifeFitness). I went to Sports Authority but the stationary bicycles they had on display seemed to be of a poorer quality than what I’m looking for. Does anybody know of a store in the SF bay area that sells the type of exercise bike I’m looking for?

Linlee answers:

Try the Treadmill Outlet in Redwood City. (And yes, they have all kinds of equipment, not just treadmills.) They are the only Life Fitness dealer in the area that I know about.

Treadmill Outlet
1401 El Camino Real
Redwood City CA 94063
Phone: 650-366-9133

Good luck!!

Your Questions About Lose Weight Fast

Richard asks…

How to lose weight healthy, but also really fast?

I’m not fat, but I am 20 lbs over weight, and I have bulky pars, not m-oobs, but still chub, and I want it to get lost fast, cuz is really annoying me.

I have a slower metabolism, and I have been fat all of my life. I am thirteen, and I want too lose it.

How can a buysy person that dosn’t have alot of time for anything, lose weight fast?

Linlee answers:

Try this, you’ll see and feel results in 2-3 days. The muscle will outweigh the fat so don’t let the scale discourage you :)

For exercise, try switching it up (Monday work on arms, Tuesday work on stomach, Wednesday work on legs, Thursday Rest, Friday Arms, Saturday Stomach, Sunday Legs) though you can choose your own schedule/plan. Try maybe using different machines for stomach or legs or arms so your body doesn’t get used to it. Also, try increasing the amount of exercise you do every week.

For eating, try portion control (70% of your diet is food intake but exercise is also important) eating the serving size and if there is no designated serving size, 1cup if it’s a meal and 1/2 a cup if it’s a snack.

Breakfast- Whenever you choose
Drink of choice- hour after breakfast (all other drinks being water; one cup of drink of choice)
Lunch- 1hr after Drink of choice
Snack- 1/2 cup, 1 hour after lunch
Dinner- 2 hours after snack

It doesn’t matter WHAT you eat unless you’re on a specific diet such as Atkins, it’s mostly just How MUCH we take in and how OFTEN we take it in. I have problems with over-eating and I’ll eat an ice cream, oh I want another and it’s not b/c I’m hungry it’s b/c I have a craving for it and it feels like I can’t wait. Also, eating out of boredom, try drinking water often to prevent hunger. I also have this problem and especially when I’m exercising. (Try buying a treadmill or a few exercising supplies or maybe you can get a gym subscription) and bring with you in an insulated glass/mug full of ice b/c I always and alot of other people always want a little something to feel like their eating or munching on and this is perfect b/c it’s hydrating and you get the little munch out of it.
Also, how I said about buying some equipment or gym subscription, I’d recommend you buy your own that way you pay a little extra and the rest is free not 1/2 the price every month or whatever. Try buying about the things (one for legs, one for stomach, one for legs and maybe as you get more into, you could add more). Also, if you lift weights try increasing the amount of weight each weeks or two. :)
Hope this helps! Good luck!
Also, calculate your intake so you know how much to work towards burning plus extra for the muscle :)

I’m twelve and this has always worked for me b/c I have a fat gene and I always maintained my weight and lost it if I got off track :

You can also view this clip below about losing weight, I’m sure It will help you as well since it also served me in losing weight. It is very impressive and very speedy effect.

Susan asks…

How can i lose weight fast?

ok so i am well over 100 pounds over weight , I am looking to lose this weight fast cause i need to lower my blood pressure and cholestorol and i would like suggestions on how to do it .
should i do a liquid diet ? has anyone tried that ?
im 26 female
thanks guys . and i know that its not healthy to lose fast but im already not healthy so..

Linlee answers:

Hi! I’m glad you are determined to lose weight, good job! Determination is half the success :)

Now, I have the same problem as you few years back.
The first thing you should know : DO NOT GO ON A DIET

It does not work! It’ll only make you gain more weight. Trust me, it’s proven all over the world

Number two: BE CAREFUL OF WHAT YOU EAT
Foods that are high in sugar or fats should not be taken at all!
Examples: fast food, chips, sweets, canned drinks.

Take a look at this pyramid:

http://web.mit.edu/athletics/sportsmedicine/Food%20Pyramid.JPG

Take food which only belong to the Bread, Cereal group, Vegetable group, and Fruits group
Meat eggs and milk yoghurt group can be taken, but not all the time. Probably 4 times a week.

DO NOT TAKE OIL SWEET GROUP! NO WAY!

Number three: EAT LESS, EAT MORE TIMES
you can eat up to 5-6 meals a day, BUT each meal is a small amount.
Eat less in quantity, more in frequency. This is very very effective.

Number four: NEVER EVER TOUCH SLIMMING PILLS
this pills are very very damaging to your health, please do not take them!

Number five: TAKE FOOD WHICH HELPS LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE & CHOLESTEROL
a good food that helps you lower your BP is GRREN APPLE JUICE
but remember, do not take in large amounts on a regular basis, it can cause dizziness.
Take about 3 times a week, a cup full will do.

Number five: DO NOT EAT 3 HOURS BEFORE YOU SLEEP
this is a BIG NO NO. Your body is not capable of processing your food properly while you are asleep. They will turn into fats.

Number six: EXERCISE
exercise at least 4 times a week, at least 60 minutes per time

suitable exercises: http://allwomenstalk.com/10-top-exercises-to-lose-weight/

instead of spending money on useless slimming pills, you can hire a personal trainer to set your exercising schedule and monitor you.

Number seven: BE DETERMINED
BE DETERMINED! Do not cave into temptation when you see fast food, chips, cookies, sweets, etc etc. Do not touch them! Always persevere to the end!

Number eight: SUPPORT FROM FAMILIES & FRIENDS
Psychology plays a big part too. You’ll be more efficient with moral support from friends or families. You’ll be motivated to do better :)

Stick to the eight steps strictly and you’ll notice results in no time, lady :)
Remember, determination is half the success! You’ve already succeed half-way! Do not give up and keep on persevere till the end :)

Good luck!

Michael asks…

How to lose weight fast and healthily?

I weigh 137 pounds and I really want to lose some weight, because I’m extremely embarrassed to go swimming. I know there’s really no “fast” way to lose weight, but what can I do to lose weight? I always drink water instead of sugary drinks, and I do 100 sit-ups and ballet squats before I go to bed every night. Any other important tips and exercises I can do for great results? Oh and I want to lose fat on my stomach, hips, and I want to tone my legs.

Linlee answers:

1. First start by getting up earlier than usual. Around 5:30 AM to do some of you workouts. Getting up early shocks your metabolism because the body needs more energy to get going. Right? This will start your system on the road to weight loss. That early start with about 10 minutes of stretching. Have a cup of coffee to get the blood going also.

2. Do all the sit-ups you can. Just do them. 15 or 20 whatever, we don’t have a lot of time to work with. Rest 1 minute repeat, do this for 6 sets. Already you are breathing hard and feel worn, because the body is working extra hard at being up earlier and then going right into exercise. If the early morning hour lets you get your cardio in, go ahead and do it. 30 minutes.

3. Diet. Cut all current meal portions in half, just cut them in half, nothing fancy or complicated, CUT IN HALF! Cut out all bread products, all gravies, candies, chips, night snacks, etc. If you crave at night eat a banana, other fruit or best a non-fat yogurt. There are some tasty ones out there.

4. In the evening do another 6 sets of sit-ups maxing out each set. Cardio again. The trick is to stay with getting up earlier. Yes it’s hard, that’s why it is so effective. Why do you think the Army gets up so early, it is intense training to the max.

Helen asks…

How fast can you lose weight without it being unhealthy?

This winter break, I am planning on making a strong effort to lose weight. For all who are wondering, the break will be 6 weeks long.

Here is what I am planning to do:
-Eat a very reasonable diet.
-Take protein supplements.
-Drink lots of water.
-Ride my bike for an hour or two a day.
-Go to the gym Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and do some anaerobic exercise to build lean muscle.

Would this be unhealthy? I have a feeling I will lose weight rather quickly, but a friend told me that losing weight fast is almost as unhealthy as being overweight in the first place. Is my plan unreasonable?

Thoughts?

Linlee answers:

Start doing that before the break, start out slow, it will take a while for your body to get accustomed to all the changes. Starving yourself is just as bad as burning off all the calories you ate that day, just make sure you get 1200 calories a day, and ride your bike for an hour maybe, two seems a bit extreme for now, especially if you’re coming out of an inactive lifestyle. Your friend is right, just don’t go overboard with the exercising. If your body goes into starvation mode you could easily gain all the weight back as fast as you lost it. Good luck!

William asks…

How can you lose weight fast and healthy?

I have tried to lose weight before a few times, and it never works for me like at all. I don’t know what to do, but I want to lose weight fast, and healthy. I wanna lose like a lot of weight in a few months because I am fat and I am impatient.Does anyone have ideas or tips?

Linlee answers:

Studies prove that people who lose weight quickly are more likely to gain it back.

It shocks your body, and it can screw up your metabolism permanently to make gaining weight easier and losing weight harder… Giving you something to struggle with all of your life.

If you make “fast” a more important factor than “permanent,” you are going to screw yourself badly.

Losing weight is more of a mental battle than a physical one. If you really want to be successful, you have to battle your impatience before you can change your habits.

And fact is, the only way to lose weight and keep it off is to change your habits— forever. To learn to make better choices about exercising and eating healthier. Because if you ever change back to your old habits, your cells will gladly gain all that weight back.

So what does it matter how long it takes? As long as you change your lifestyle to healthier habits, you will take it off and keep it off.

Your Questions About Exercise Planner

Sandy asks…

Can someone help me find a free printable Meal and Exercise planner?

I am looking for something I can write in for each day the food and exercise I do

Thanks =)

Linlee answers:

Hi storm. Have you tried Sparkpeople? I love the website and it is “FREE” ! So much to tell ya about it so I think I will just give you the link and have you check it out!
Hope this is what you are looking for.

Maria asks…

Where can I get the Diet and Exercise Devotional plus Planner?

Linlee answers:

I got my copy from www.tpbooks.biz. You can also get it at www.nutritouch.org. It is excellent!

Just to clarify, the one I got is written by R.A. Waller and S.M. Waller and is called “Diet and Exercise Devotional plus Weekly Planner” .

In addition to being an appointment planner like a Franklin Covey scheduler, it also prompts you to schedule a date with yourself to work on various health goals on a weekly basis. For example, I’ve been trying to drink more water. The health log is interfaced with the appointment planner and let’s me schedule a date with myself to incorporate my goal to drink more water. Then gives me a space to track my weekly progress.

There is also a weekly prompt to work on a bunch of other health things like exercising more, eating better, and even remembering to schedule a date with myself to work on my outward appearance. It even has a space to put your Before and After pictures and write a journal about your health progress or whatever.

The weekly devotionals that start each week actually build in a relevant health topic for the week (from PMS to Prostate health), then guides you to work on that particular issue as you go about your busy schedule. I am already seeing improvements in my habits and have even lost a couple pounds with this planner. As if that’s not enough, there’s even a phone number you can call for motivation and encouragement which has definitely been helping me reach my health goals. This is THE BEST BOOK I’ve gotten this year!! I repeat, It’s AWESOME MAN…you’re going to love it! Good luck.

George asks…

Carol asks…

Diet and Exercise Daily Planner thing. 10 easy points.?

Hey, thanks for coming into my question. I’m Roxie and I am 13 years old.
I feel really fat at the moment and i would really like to become thin so that i would feel more comfortable in my own skin. If somebody could make me a diet and exercise plan i would really appreciate it. I want to loose body fat and i dont mind giving up on foods or anything as long as it makes me get thin. Also i was thinking of modeling when i was 16 so i need to be pretty thin.
Roxy <3

Linlee answers:

If you’re thinking about being very thin to model at 16, be very careful not to fall into a obsessive disorder like anorexia. Try to be comfortable with who you are no matter your weight or complexion. If you make an effort to “feel happy” all the time, you’ll begin to attract things that will maintain that happiness, including a thinner body. Go watch the movie “The Secret” and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

And if you want a safe diet, go to http://Abs.FatMastering.com and learn what foods burn more calories than what you consume along with some easy non stressful exercises that will make you lose belly fat really fast.

Good luck!

David asks…

Is Valentines Day just a cynical exercise by wedding planners to send their industry into melt down on 1 day?

Or is it a good excuse to plan the whole year how you can get one partner whilst everyone else is just screwing around?

Linlee answers:

It is good to see that one cynic is still around.

Cynics usually get that way when something they used to like has gone astray.

Your Questions About Healthy Eating Tips For Babies

Sharon asks…

Laura asks…

Mark asks…

Lisa asks…
